Back in 2016, the CBD craze took the UK population by storm, and today, over six million residents regularly take cannabidiol-based products. But why so? Firstly, CBD has proven to be remedial for an array of medical ailments. With that being said, we shouldn’t just focus on its good points; so, CBD oil, is it addictive or dangerous in any way?

CBD Oil – The “Panacea”

In recent years CBD oil has been falsely touted as a “cure-all”. However, that’s not to say that it isn’t a marvel of a molecule – warranting it to be one of natures most remarkable wellness compounds. 

The most popular CBD oils on the market are whole-plant extracts that are combined with a carrier oil. So what is a “whole-plant extract?”

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil

A whole-plant extract is otherwise known as full-spectrum, which is a product that contains the entire range of molecules; and in this case, CBD oil contains most of the hemp plant’s natural range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavanoids.

So, CBD Oil – Is it Addictive?

Over the years, the CBD customer base has rapidly ascended. Nevertheless, that’s not to say that CBD oil is addictive. 

People consume CBD for many reasons, most notably for its anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is a symptom of countless medical conditions, and CBD has proven to offer relief to multiple of them. 

In fact, in 2017, WHO (The World Health Organisation) stated that – “evidence from well-controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential.” Thus confirming that CBD oil is not addictive. 

CBD Oil, Is it Dangerous or Doe’s it Carry any Side-effects?

In essence, CBD is considered to be a safe substance, although, that’s not to say that it may not induce mild side effects. In rare cases, individuals have reported that CBD can produce mild side effects, which include:

  • Nausea: Perhaps the most common side effect, however, this could be a cause of taking CBD on an empty stomach; failing that, there’s a chance that CBD consumable products aren’t for you. 
  • Dry Mouth: In a similar fashion to THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD may increase thirst – but this is nothing that a glass of water won’t fix. 
  • Diarrhoea: Likewise with nausea, diarrhoea is a small likelihood. Once again, consider whether you have taken the CBD oil without eating; this could also be the problem. If not, perhaps you should stop taking CBD altogether. 
  • Headaches or Migraines: A rare concern, but headaches or migraines can be a consequence of taking CBD oil. Fortunately, this could be a result of a low-quality oil or a potential negative reaction to the carrier oil. Should this arise, then switching to a quality brand is likely to fix the problem.
